More About Rico Roman:
Rico is not only an Olympian, he is also a veteran, and now through his partnership with Citi Every Step of the way, he is able to give back to an organization that changed his life. Operation Comfort.
In 2007, one month shy of leaving Iraq, Rico’s convoy was hit by a roadside bomb. Luckily,he survived, but not without injury. His leg was badly injured. The prospect of living a “normal life” again seemed distant, let alone ever being an Olympian. After a very difficult year, he made the difficult choice to lose his leg, in hopes of becoming pain free and able to do more with a prosthetic limb. In 2010, Operation Comfort, introduced Rico to sled hockey. The sport provided him with an outlet to use his new talents and the spirit of being on a team that he had been missing.
